A Trial Lesson is the best placement test and is a low-cost way for you to test-drive our Portuguese lessons. At the end of the session your teacher will know more about your goals and skills than any standardized test could ever tell.
Your instructor will work with you from the start to develop a course of learning that meets your needs and delivers your goals.
You will quickly see the difference it makes when you learn with experienced instructors and great learning materials.
We have been teaching Portuguese online since 2008, helping learners around the globe speak our beautiful language with ease.
To learn a language, you need to speak it, period. Just like you need to drive a car to learn how to drive, and the same way you need to cook to learn how to cook.
Similarly, to speak another language, you need to speak it.
There is only so much that apps, videos, and books can do for you.
To speak naturally and to fully develop your listening skills, you need to practice your Portuguese in real-life situations, carrying out natural conversations.
Get all the practice you need with our one-on-one Portuguese lessons via video meetings.
You get your own private Brazilian Portuguese teacher, and you can learn from anywhere.

You can schedule classes at times that best fit your busy lifestyle. With our one-on-one lessons, you have the flexibility to set your own pace. However, consistency and practice are key to developing fluency. We recommend starting with one hour per week to build a solid foundation. Regular practice between sessions will significantly enhance your progress.
If you’re preparing for the Celpe-Bras exam, the frequency of your classes will depend on how soon your test is and your current level of Portuguese. We can create a tailored study plan to ensure you are fully prepared in time for your exam.
The time it takes to learn Portuguese varies for each person. We all have different talents and abilities. Some people are naturally adept at learning languages and progress quickly, while others may take a bit longer, which is perfectly fine. Everyone has their own strengths and paces. We’ve had clients become conversational in three to four months, while others take more time due to different commitments and learning styles. At Street Smart Brazil, we tailor our lessons to fit your individual needs and help you progress at your own pace.
Yes, you will always have study materials and homework 📝. The more you practice between sessions, the faster your Portuguese will advance. With that said, we understand that many of our clients are busy professionals with demanding schedules, family commitments, and full lives. How much homework you do between sessions is entirely up to you. We are here to support you. If you cannot complete the homework, your instructor will work with you through the exercises during your sessions. That is perfectly fine too.
There are significant differences in pronunciation and the way grammar is used in everyday conversations between Brazilian Portuguese and the Portuguese spoken in Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries. The primary difference is in pronunciation. It’s similar to a foreigner learning English in the US and then traveling to England or Australia; they would need to adjust to the different accents and vocabulary. The same applies to Brazilian and European Portuguese. If your goal is to visit a Portuguese-speaking country other than Brazil, we recommend finding a teacher from that country.
