Samba Class – An Interview with Neguinha Sambista from Aquarela Dance Group

posted on February 13, 2010

Aquarela Samba Class

It is Carnival and to celebrate it with our readers I visited Neguinha Sambista, a professional Samba instructor from Aquarela Samba Troup, in Berkely, CA. We interviewed her about the history and styles of the dance, and she told us about her classes. We also filmed parts of the lesson for you! Aquarela teaches Samba and provides Samba shows around the SF Bay Area. We filmed Neguinha Sambista at the Dance Mission Theatre in San Francisco.

The class was fantastic! The music is vibrant and all the students — experienced and novice — looked beautiful, healthy, and happy. Totally contagious! Check out the video!

I like Latine dances and Samba is one of my favourites. It is so vivid and beautiful. Watch this dance http://www.tubesfan.com/watch/samba . I think you’ll agree with me. It is nice that samba which is taught here doesn’t demand a partner, because often it is very difficult to find a partner.
