The Getúlio Vargas Foundation is a learning institute that can be found in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília. It traditionally offers up in-person courses in Economics, Business Administration, Law, Social Sciences and Information technology management. The foundation itself is considered it to also be one of the world’s top think tanks.
Since the year 2000 they’ve had an online component called FGV Online which currently offers 160 paid higher education courses of many types and more than 40 other courses at no cost. Those 40+ are basically MOOCs (or massive online open courses) and they start whenever you’re ready to begin. If your Portuguese is good enough, that is. The good part is that since it’s self-paced I’m pretty sure you can stay on one screen (ie, a particular set of information) for as long as you need, meaning your Portuguese shouldn’t need to be perfect to try it out. Plus, they give out certificates of completion at the end! Correction: It’s a “declaration of participation”, not a certificate.
Noticing they offer a Sociology course at 30 hours, I think I’m going to take advantage of it and see how it goes!
