Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that time of the year! Today you will learn 37 words and expressions that you can use during Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

Christmas Vocabulary

Feliz Natal = Merry Christmas

Boas Festas = Happy Holidays

  • Festa means: party; festivity; merriment
  • Holiday means: feriado (such as Presidents Day or New Year’s Day); férias (= vacation)

A Véspera do Natal = Christmas eve

A ceia de Natal = Christmas supper

O espírito natalino = Christmas spirit

Papai Noel = Santa Claus

A chaminé = chimney

A lareira = fireplace

A rena = reindeer

O trenó = sleigh

Os cânticos natalinos = Christmas carols

A decoração de Natal = Christmas decoration

Os enfeites de Natal = Christmas ornaments

A árvore de Natal = Christmas tree

As luzes de Natal = Pisca-pisca = Christmas lights

O presente = gift

As meias = stockings, socks

O boneco de neve = snowman

O Amigo Secreto = O Amigo Oculto = Secret Santa

Primeiro de janeiro = New Year’s day

Os fogos de artifício = fireworks

O champanhe = champagne
