Street Smart Brazil has the pleasure to interview Alex Martins, a native Brazilian who has lived in San Francisco since 1993, surfs with a passion, practices yoga daily, and works for himself as the local surfboard ding repair man (www.AlexMartinsSF.com). He’s well known for charging huge waves at Mavericks, the renowned surf break in Half Moon Bay (Calif.), as well as ripping on a shortboard out front of his house on the Great Highway at San Francisco’s Ocean Beach.

Alex surfed in the Mavericks Surf Contest in 2006 and 2010. He was nominated for the Monster Paddle Wave Category of the Billabong XXL Global Big Waves Awards in 2004 and 2010, when one of his waves was measured at 53 feet, only 2 feet under the new World Record. This has made Alex pretty popular and he has recently been interviewed by a number of surf magazines and websites. With all that, Alex is still a very simple and modest guy. We are very grateful that Alex talked to us! It has been a pleasure.
