What is Aula Viva?
A common life situation is performed to you by an actor/instructor:
- WATCH the short performance (about ten minutes long)
- ASK questions about the scene: vocabulary, colloquial language, grammar, and cultural aspects of the story. Let your curiosity speak up!
- WATCH the performance one more time; the second time around you get to understand much more
- CREATE and PRACTICE: After breaking apart all the nuts and bolts of the story, you will work in small groups to create your own dialogue based on everything that you have just learned.
All this happens in a safe space and all along you will receive feedback from expert instructors.
This interactive, creation-based method brings to life everything that you have learned as a student of Portuguese. This is a great opportunity for you to live your Portuguese!
The performances/scenes that we use are adaptations of contemporary Brazilian literature. The text and the performance are designed and delivered with your learning as our main goal.
Choosing the Right Group for You
- Beginner-Intermediate: The class is taught in Portuguese and in English. It is ideal for students who are not quite conversational yet and want to develop their conversational skills.
- Advanced: The class is entirely in Portuguese; it is ideal for students who are fully conversational.
We all have different skills and learning styles. Luciana loves to learn through readings and conversations. Larissa likes to move -- her kinesthetic intelligence is highly developed.
